Italian Leather – Generations of Excellence
RexRegina selects only the best leathers for its products. Our leathers come from the Tuscany region in Italy. While leathers are produced in various regions of the world, the leathers of Tuscany are superior. This superiority is due to techniques that have been refined over many centuries in this region.
The processes used to produce the leathers selected by RexRegina have very deep roots; the first notions of these techniques come from the prehistoric era. Tuscany, today, is the only great heir of this antique tradition that has been perfected by the passing down of skills from father to son. The tanneries from which RexRegina selects its leathers are all situated in Tuscany, between Pisa and Florence, a land that is rich with history, tradition and art.
Vegetable Tanning
RexRegina uses leathers that are vegetable tanned. The secret of the vegetable tanned leather lies in the use of tannins, which are vegetable extracts, from the wood and trunk of chestnut and quebracho and mimosa. The extraction of these tannins is done through completely natural processes that guarantee the total respect of the environment and assure the natural re-growth of the trees. This mixture of tannins penetrates into the raw hides during the tanning process – a natural process that is based on the slow passage of time and the expert work of the hands of the master tanners.
Leathers from Tuscany are used to create bags, belts, footwear, wallets, small leather goods for the most famous, highly regarded brands in the world.
